Great Lakes Gelatin Collagen Hydrolysate

Great Lakes collagen is derived from gelatin which is obtained from calf and cattle hide as well as cattle bones and pork skin. They shy away from using other parts of the animal because it’s believed that they do not contain a great source of collagen. The company also utilizes two different types of gelatin which are known as type a in type B. Type a gelatin comes from acid process materials primarily from pork skin whereas type B which is more alkaline in nature comes from bovine sources.

Now the downside to using collagen which is derived from bovine sources (which is what Great Lakes uses) is that you don’t know the quality of the bovine that it’s being use to formulate the gelatin. Another down side is Grate Lakes gets their gelliton from cows which are from Argentina and Brazil as you know there is a Zeka Virus outbreak in brazil so that’s something you might want to keep in mind.

This is why I highly recommend users check out Skinade brand of collagen which gelatin is derived from marine-based animals and is manufactured in the UK and NOT overseas. Studies show that marine-based collagen outperforms bovine base collagens which is something you want to keep in mind if you’re looking for the best quality collagen that’s available.

Also, one thing you want to keep in mind is the reason that you’re actually taking the collagen in the first place. Are you taking it because of medical reasons such as arthritis or osteoporosis or are you taking it for cosmetic reasons such as reducing wrinkles, tigheting skin, etc… This make a huge difference since marine based collagen such as Skinade are great for Type I & Type III collagen (Which reduces wrinkles, etc…) and bovine based collagen like Great Lakes are only good for Type II collagen (Helps rebuild joints, cartilage, etc…) and this is why many people complain about NOT seeing a reduction of wrinkles when using Great Lakes collagen so it comes down to your end goal. If you can afford to, it’s recommended that you buy both products since you’ll get a complete source of collagen, Tyipe I, Type, II, & Type III.

Great lakes is a decent brand of collagen but the only thing I would be weary of is the fact that the cows that they use in their collagen comes from brazil.
